Every action fan in the world, regardless of nation, who has access to cable television or the internet, will tell you that John Woo is the most important director in the genre. I was looping his Hollywood flicks before I looked at his Hong Kong productions. Woo's use of Jean-Claude Van Damme's mullet in Hard Target had me spellbound. I was forced to watch Broken Arrow numerous times by one of my friends, and even though it didn’t hit me during the first few viewings, eventually, the absolute craziness on exhibit blew me away. I was obviously unprepared for Face/Off's insane idea and John Travolta and Nic Cage's even more insane performances.
