For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 8:38-39
Just before this promise, Paul asks the question, "who can separate us from the love of Christ. He answers that question with this promise; nothing can separate us.
We all go through times when we feel as though God may have forgotten about us. When a pink slip arrives at your desk unexpectedly, and you have to find a new job, you may feel God forgot about you. When a relationship falls apart, or you receive a bad report from the Doctor, it's easy to think that God must be a million miles away. Even on those days when the pressures and stresses of life seem to swallow you alive, you can forget that God is with you.
This promise reminds you that nothing can separate you from the Love of Christ. No matter what situation you face today, Christ is right there in the middle of it with you. You may not feel like it, but trust me, He is there.
The Apostle Paul went through many days of discouragement, and trial. There were constant attempts on his life, and he spent some pretty long days in a dark, smelly Roman prison. But through it all, Paul understood that none of that could keep him from the love of Christ.
