We explore today the first chapter of the book of Ruth. We consider the plight of Naomi, who has relocated to Moab with her family because of a famine in the region of their hometown of Bethlehem.
As is frequent with resident aliens, the clan of Naomi is soon faced with additional subsequent tragedies. She loses here husband and her two sons and is left alone with her two Moabite daughter in laws, Ruth and Orpah.
In this lesson, we observe the story of Ruth as being a story for all. It is sad, but true, that the book of Ruth has largely been ignored by most males. Though frequently occurring as a women's Bible study, it has been greatly marginalized. I want to suggest that the book of Ruth features some robust theology and themes for males and females.
