Loving yourself is one of the hardest things for an individual to do.
We’ve been taught, from an early age, that there are good parts and bad parts of who we are. We begin to see those 'bad' parts of ourselves as something to be avoided at all costs. And yet, our shadow selves wouldn’t be as insidious if we accepted them instead of burying them away. If we can look at all parts of ourselves and say, “I accept you just the way you are” then in a stroke of irony, those parts of ourselves that we labeled as negative wouldn't have that much sway over our behaviour patterns.
That is what enlightenment is - lightening up on yourself and bringing the shadow to the light - learning to love and accept yourself unconditionally - being one and being complete with the totality of who you are. That is the secret.
