Description

Algeria is a gateway between Africa and Europe. The Sahara desert covers more than four fifths of the land. It gained independence in 1962 after a long struggle which began in 1954 headed by the “National Liberation Front”. This vast country supplies large amounts of natural gas to Europe and energy exports remain the backbone of the economy. President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who won a fourth term in office is credited to having helped end the devastating 1990’s civil war.
