In South Africa the month of July is dedicated to the father of the nation, Nelson Mandela. The Mandela Day is held annually on July 18. People around the world are encouraged to dedicate 67 minutes of their time to do community work in celebration of the “Ubuntu” values and principles that the first democratic president of South Africa epitomized. This year Channel Africa visited the Carl Sithole centre in Soweto, Johannesburg and spent 67 minutes planting seedlings for a veggie garden. This project was made possible with the sponsorship of a fertilizer and distribution company, Fertilis earthworm castings product. Carmen Nottingham, the co-founder of Fertilis came on board to contribute and support this initiative that will make a difference at the Sithole Centre. In this edition of, “Tam Tam Express” we talk to this talented woman who has been involved in countless community projects throughout Southern Africa and we also get some great advice on how to heal the soil. Tune in for more!
