Africa has made tremendous progress in tackling the Aids epidemic. Africa is now leading the world in expanding access to antiretroviral therapy, and new HIV infections have declined by 33% from 2005 to 2013. However the Aids epidemic is far from over. Aids remains a leading cause of death in the region, killing 1.1 million people in 2013. Ending the Aids epidemic is a priority for the African continent.
