Recent crime statistics released by the police for 2016/17 indicates that nearly 50 000 sexual offences were recorded by the police, down from 51,000 in 2015/16. Crimes that fall under this category include rape, incest, statutory rape and sexual grooming of children, among others. Violence continues to dominate in our private and public spaces as we have seen in recent past with one of our ministers who was recently convicted after beating up a woman in a popular club.
