The issue of peace and security in Africa took centre stage last week at the African Leadership forum in Boksburg, East of Johannesburg. The two-day sitting was convened by the former Presidents of South Africa and Tanzania, Thabo Mbeki and Benjamin Mkapa. Former Heads of State from Nigeria, Tunisia, Malawi and Somalia led the robust debate. A key concern that was raised is how Africa continues to fail to resolve conflicts in countries which have been destabilized by either civil war, terrorism or regime change.
