Description

The 12th annual review of the situation of the country’s children is published by the Children’s Institute at the University of Cape Town. The report focuses on many key areas such as promoting caring relationships so that children can thrive; improving nutrition as stunting remains high in South Africa over the past 20 years, affecting 27% of children under five. It also highlights that children’s exposure to abuse, neglect and other forms of violence increases the risk of mental health problems and contributes to the cycle of violence.

To discuss this further we are joined by:

• Lucy Jamieson: Senior researcher at Children Institute and lead editor for this year’s SA Child’s Gauge

• Gugu Xaba: Programme Director Save the Children South Africa

• Mayke Huibregts: Chief of Child Protection and Social Policy at UNICEF South Africa
