In the next few days the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is expected to descend onto the Cape Flats in the Western Cape Province of the country to offer support to the police and enter ten identified areas of the Cape Flats. South African Police Commissioner Bheki Cele announced last week that President Cyril Ramaphosa had given him the green light for the army to be deployed. Meanwhile it was another bloody weekend in the Cape Metro with one hundred and forty-three arrests, and forty-three murders were committed over the same period. Residents have been urging government to urgently assist to quell the gang related violence in their community.
