Last week Tuesday a non-profit organisation, Right2Know, marched to the doorsteps of major telecommucations companies in South Africa demanding for the reduction for the cost of data and airtime. The organisation coordinated a picket at the MTN, Vodacom, Cell C and Telkom premises as the debate of the cost of data has been a major talking point in the country. This week, the Annual Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa is taking place for the first time in South Africa and issues of the importance of the access to the internet on the continent will be discussed at this gathering.
