Description

South Africa is ranked at 47 out of the 113 countries in this year’s Global Food Security Index (GFSI).The country ranked first among its sub-Saharan African peers and landed in the top ten of upper-middle-income countries, with Malaysia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil and China claiming the top five spots in this category. Meanwhile, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation has warned that, millions of farmers throughout the SADeC region need urgent assistance to prepare for the next planting season.
