A new report claims that authorities in Kenya have committed a range of abuses against journalists in the lead up of August elections in the country. Human Rights Watch, alongside Article 19 Eastern Africa, released a report titled ‘Not worth the Risk’: Threats to Free Expression Ahead of Kenya’s 2017 Elections,”. The report documents abuses by government officials, police, county governors, and other government officials against the media. According to the report, the journalists that experience these abuses are those who report on sensitive issues.
