Description

It was reported last week that the whereabouts of former Madagascar president Marc Ravalomanana were unknown after he was seized by police shortly after his surprise return from exile. Later it was reported that Ravalomanana was held under house arrest in Antsiranana (Diego Suerez) in the north of the Indian Ocean Island. After visiting the former president his wife, Lalao, said that he was being held in an undignified condition. Marc Ravalomanana, who was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment with hard labor, slipped back into Madagascar last week Monday, five years after a military coup and two months of violent protests forced him to flee first to Swaziland and then to South Africa.
