Description

Following its’ establishment, the New Development Bank (NDB) opened its South African branch of the Africa Regional Center (ARC) in Johannesburg, in August last year with the intention to facilitate access to global finance by African investors and institutions. Last week, Oxfam South Africa held a dialogue between the bank and civil society organisations to provide inputs on BRICS through a Civil BRICS working group. Civil BRICS is planning a multi-stakeholder roundtable to initiate this engagement. Some areas of concern that will fall within the Bank’s five areas of operation are: clean energy; transport infrastructure; irrigation, water resource management and sanitation; sustainable urban development. The meeting comes as South Africa will host the 10th BRICS summit in July 2018.
