According to a new UN report, titled Generation 2030, there are currently, 1.2 billion people living on the continent, which is five times more than the population in the continent in 1950. The report projects that by the year 2050, Africa’s population will double to 2.4 billion. As much as this population growth can create possibilities for the continent it also poses a huge challenge for African governments to design efficient national and social development planning systems to deal with these populations.
