The new mantra of South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC, has become “radical economic transformation”. Just this past weekend the country’s president Jacob Zuma likened the term to holy talk. Zuma was speaking at the University of Zululand in Dlangezwa, in the north of the province of Kwazulu Natal. Zuma continued to define this term as “fundamental change in the structure, system, institutions, patterns of ownership, management and control of the economy in favour of all South Africans, in particular the poor and the working class”. However the term gained its popularity via the young opposition party, the Economic Freedom Fighters.
