Nearly a million people are facing severe hunger in Mozambique. United Nations food agency has appealed to donors to confront a protracted humanitarian crisis in conflict-hit Cabo Delgado province.

A worsening conflict has driven hundreds of thousands from their homes. In the latest attack by al shabaab linked fighters, in March led to thousands of residents leaving Palma to Pemba for safety.

However, the situation remains volatile. Earlier on African Dialogue we spoke to Shelley Thakral who is the WFP spokesperson in Mozambique she is based in Pemba where there is an urgent need for humanitarian aid.
