Description

Today South Africans celebrate the life of Steve Biko as the 12th of September commemorates his death under the hands of apartheid government. Steve Biko is known for his views against racism in South Africa and his philosophy which was inspired by Black Consciousness. As a leader of the South African Students Organisation he expressed his strong pro-black views through the Frank Talk publication which became problematic for the apartheid regime because it affirmed blackness. Today South Africa's president Jacob Zuma will be commemorating Biko by visiting the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre where the social and political activist died.
