Description

Today is World Albinism Day. The United Nation’s General Assembly proclaimed this day as such on the 18th of December in 2014. This came after the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in 2013 which called for the prevention of discrimination against persons with albinism. Although it is difficult to get accurate statistics on crimes against the albinism community it is a well-known fact that many are attacked in African countries such as Malawi, Burundi, South Africa and Tanzania. This is because it is believed in parts of southern and eastern Africa that body parts of those living with albinism are believed to hold magic powers.
