Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe told an estimated 12 000 delegates attending the elective congress of the Zanu-PF party yesterday that speculation that he will step down is foolish and idiotic. The 90 year old Mugabe has recently accused his Vice President and one-time heir apparent Joyce Mujuru of plotting to unseat him and was conspiring with the opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and the United States. Mujuru has been ejected from the leadership of the Zanu-PF in what some claim has been by way of a three month campaign by first lady Grace Mugabe to remove her from her position as Vice President.
