George Frideric Handel (1685-1759) was a German-British Baroque composer. His most famous work, the 1742 oratorio Messiah with its "Hallelujah" chorus, is among the most popular works in choral music. The text from Messiah was compiled from the King James Bible and the Book of Common Prayer. Zadok the Priest is a British anthem that was composed by Handel for the coronation of George II in 1727. The text to Zadok the Priest is derived from the biblical account of the anointing of Solomon in 1 Kings 1:32-45.
