The situation remains volatile iQwaQwa in the Free State after the shooting of a 22-year old man during a protest. An eyewitness insists that he was killed by the police. Police say they will not speculate and have referred the matter to the Independent Police Directorate (IPID) for an investigation. Residents have, for almost a week, been looting local shops and burning tyres in protest against the mayor of the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality Vusi Tshabalala, whom they say is failing to deal with water supply cuts and power outages.
