This comes amidst a controversial cartoon by artist Zapiro, real name Jonathan Shapiro, which appeared in Daily Maverick yesterday. The drawing depicts a woman dressed in a South African flag, being held down by characters viewed as close associates of president Jacob Zuma, while he looks away and tells another character, resembling one of the Gupta brothers, that the lady draped in the flag is all his. There's been an outcry with some people saying the cartoon is insensitive to rape survivors. Here's what Zapiro has said in his defense.
