This past Sunday, Pastor Matt brought us to Genesis 16 in our ongoing study through the book of Genesis. We slowed down in this episode to consider Hagar—where she's from and why her background matters. We also looked at the Angel of the Lord and the weighty reality that this is no mere angel, but a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ Himself. And we wrestled with what it means for Ishmael to be called the "father of many nations," seeing how even here God is sovereignly working out His purposes according to His promises.
