Imagine a little girl growing up in Cameroon, from humble beginnings, curious about everything and never afraid to ask why.
Decades later, she is in Silicon Valley building AI technology used by billions of people around the world.
This is Dr. Marie-Ange Eyoum Tagne, and she became the first African-born woman to earn a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Berkeley. She almost quit during that program until one mentor looked her in the eyes and said, I believe in you.
From there, she went on to lead product at Meta, Amazon, Roku, Yahoo and Intel.
Then, after twenty years of eighty hour work weeks, she was laid off. She sat with an empty calendar and started journaling just to find her way back to herself. One question kept surfacing. Who am I without this job and without this title.
In this episode we get into what it really looks like to rebuild your identity after a layoff, the mentors who believed in her before she believed in herself, and the legacy she is building on her own terms.
