The three different grips in Iaido, essential knowledge for intermediate and advanced practitioners.
Based on the teachings of masters such as Ishido, Kobayashi, and Fukuhara.
Only the Kirite grip or Kirioroshi no te, used for classical cutting, is initially taught. However, more experienced practitioners must learn to naturally vary their grip to adapt to specific movements. The other two grips are the Chiburi no te or Tomete, used for example in chiburi to firmly block the sword, and the Nukitsuke no te, used for horizontal cuts and the tsuki strike.
It is emphasized that the ability to change grips fluidly and unobtrusively indicates maturity in the practice.
