We recently got asked what is neurofeedback and what the difference between neurofeedback vs biofeedback was. Great question! Dr. Meghan Marcum is a neurofeedback and biofeedback trained professional and explains what they are and their differences and benefits!
Biofeedback is a mind-body therapy that uses electrical signals to help a person gain awareness and control over psychological processes.
There are a lot of biofeedback benefits such as:
- Better control of heart rate
- Control Muscle tension
- Lower blood pressure
and much more
Research has shown biofeedback is an effective tool at helping a variety of scientific and psychological issues such as anxiety, trauma and headaches.
Neurofeedback is a similar process whereby individuals learn to self regulate their brain waves over time(self control over brain activity)
Neurofeedback can also at times be known as eeg biofeedback and it's a self-intervention to teach brain function. Typically little sensors are attached to the head to track responses. You typically need a professional to assist in this.
Some of the benefits of neurofeedback therapy can include:
- Reduce anxiety
- ADHD and ADD
- Stress disorders
- Panic attacks
- Depression
- Headaches and migraines
- and sleep issues.
