After reading some concurrent blog posts where we discover Rick's musical proclivities (and a quick questioning of this book's dedication) we jump right into this new series with a spring in our step. We discuss how death hangs over the opening of this novel, Riordan pivoting to a more nuanced view on homelessness, expert Annabeth cameos, Magnus's quirky dead mom and mystery Norse dad and vampire ninja dad and anime mom dad, Massholes, immersive sim brownstones, Protestant conspiracy thinking, mortals finding themselves in the crossfire, our predictions for how the arc of this story will progress based on these opening chapters, and MCU mentions.
