After losing a college scholarship, Shamere McKenzie met a man who she thought was going to help her earn money so she could return to university. In reality, this man became her trafficker. Starting in 2005, he forced her into sex work and subjected her to violent and degrading treatment. However, after 18 months she was able to make her escape.
