In Matthew 18 Jesus tells His disciples that unless they change and become like little children, they will never enter the kingdom of heaven. What in the world does that mean? I’ve met a lot of little children and almost none of them appeared to be super well behaved or even all that godly. I’ve met a baby or two that appeared angelic while they slept but that sleep was generally the calm before the storm. I’ve met a lot of middle schoolers and, well, let’s just say there are few that Jesus would exhort you to emulate. So what on earth did He mean when he said that we ought to change and become like little children?
Did Jesus have in mind some ancient version of the 90’s cult classic Billy Madison where Adam Sandler tries to prove to his dad that he’s good enough to inherit the family business by repeating 1st through 12th grade as a grown man? Somehow I doubt it, though they are both Jewish… hmmm.
