Let's take a look at Matthew 5:13-16 and explore the world behind the text. Jesus spoke these words to a specific group of people in a specific culture at a specific time. And the world behind the words of Jesus goes all the way back to Genesis 12:2-3 when God blessed Abraham and made a promise that through him all the people of the earth will be blessed. There is also a reference to a “covenant of salt.". Then Jesus uses the metaphor of salt and light to describe how this blessing will go out through His people and community.
We will then look at the world in front of the text—that’s us. And how the words of Jesus has such tremendous potential for changing our world.
In this message we look at how we can not only live the blessed life in the Kingdom of God, but share it with others in ways that impact them for time and eternity.
