In this challenging section of God's word we encounter male abusers, sensuality, forced compliance, drunkenness and leering lust. Yet, through all these displays of random wickedness and carnal indulgence God was working to protect His covenant people. What emerges as ultimately victorious is not physically beauty but inward character. We also learn that only Jesus Christ can wield absolute power justly and it is Jesus who rescues us not because of external attractiveness but because of inward moral perfection!
