Peter placed too much confidence in his commitment to Jesus. We all tend to misunderstand God’s call. We think our commitment is what God is after. Jesus is not after our commitment, passion, or devotion. All of those will eventually wane. God is after a surrender of the will.
Commitment is dangerous. Surrender is secure.
