The people of God had lost the fear of the Lord. Their worship was an afterthought and their spiritual health was anemic. God called all to repentance but saved a harsh rebuke for the priests. They were cowards. Years later, Peter and John would say all Christians are “priests.” Priests are called to honor God by living courageous lives.
