Description

For God’s people the city of Jerusalem was the very center of political and religious life so one would think that with Jesus’ arrival Jerusalem would be full of spiritual life. But the reality was the very opposite. Under the authority of a pagan Roman Caesar an evil, corrupt, brutal man was ruling over the Jewish people. Instead of being a place of worship to the one true and Holy God the temple had become a for-profit business that served the greedy religious elite. In this passage the Lord Jesus demonstrates his commitment to and his confidence in God’s plan as he defies a tyrant and laments the spiritual state of Jerusalem.
