In last week’s sermon on the parable of the sower (or the seed and the soils) Jesus taught about how the word of God is like a seed that brings life and produces fruit. In this week’s sermon passage Jesus teaches us how God’s word is also like a light that reveals the truth and shows us how we are to walk. In doing so, Jesus calls us to hear and to do what God’s word says.
