Paul had many reasons to consider himself worthy of Christ and of the reward of Heaven. Yet, he thought of it all as rubbish for the surpassing greatness of the knowledge of God in Christ Jesus. Why? He knew that none of his accomplishments formed the bases for his acceptance before God. Only Christ mattered for his salvation. So, he willingly threw everything away to know Christ more.
