Sermon for Quinquagesima
Jesus reveals clearly what he has to do to enter his kingdom, but the disciples do not understand. Christ’s purpose in Jerusalem is hidden from the twelve, they are blind to it.
The disciples have the idea that Jesus is a victorious king, they don’t want Him to go to become king by suffering, but this is the more excellent way. This is the way that comes to us, that truly saves us in the low places where we are.
In contrast the blind man sees who Jesus is, that He is a man who will not go by a poor blind man on the road but will humble himself to come and heal him. This faith them follows Jesus on the road to the cross.
