Paul is writing to all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be set apart for a sanctified life. He is thankful for their faith and trust in God's power, wisdom and goodness. His purpose in writing is for mutual encouragement and to preach the gospel in a way that brings understanding and real life change.

Rome was founded in 753 B.C. and by the time of Paul it was the greatest city in the world! Paul wrote his letter to the Romans in AD 57. Feel free to enhance your understanding by reading up on what Rome was like at that time!
