Jesus shows his authority over Satan and engages in conflict about the power of God with the Pharisees. Jesus calls out the Pharisees by reminding them of the wicked generation in the wilderness. This whole passage is undergirded by the Exodus and wilderness narratives in Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers. We cover demonology, how we deal with evil spirits, and we even got a surprise visit from Craig! The clear application of this passage is that what matters is what/who resides inside of you. Are you a representative of Jesus and his power, or are you displaying something outwardly that is not true of you on the inside.
