The Gospel in Action: A letter to Philemon
Forgive One Another
Philemon 7
Pastor Reuben Foncardas
Forgiveness sets free both the offender and the offended. However, the road to this freedom is narrow and hard to find. Paul’s letter to Philemon shows us several important principles on experiencing the freedom of forgiveness.
1. Forgive on the basis of Love (vv. 7-12)
1. Your love for me (Paul) and the saints.
2. My (Paul) love for you (Philemon) and Onesimus.
3. God’s love for us and our love for Him.
2. Forgive on the merits of the Saviour (vv. 17-21)
1. Welcome him (Onesimus) as you would welcome me (Paul).
2. Charge his (Onesimus) debts to me (Paul).
3. Do even more than I (Paul) ask.

Conclusion:
• All of us are “Onesimuses”.
• All of us need a “Paul” in our lives.
• All of us face a “Philemon” decision.
