The Gospel in Action: A letter to Philemon

The Reflection of the Cross

Rev. Ho-Ming Tsui

The Cross is Reflected in Our Lives:

1. Substitution (v. 17)

“So if you consider me a partner, welcome him as you would welcome me.”

2. Justification (v. 18)

“If he has done you any wrong or owes you anything, charge it to me.”

3. Redemption (v. 19)

“I, Paul, am writing this with my own hand. I will pay it back—not to mention that you owe me your very self”

Reflect on the following quote:

“It doesn’t matter if you have almost entered into the depths of hell. It does not matter if you are guilty of murder as well as every other vile sin. It does not matter from the standpoint of being justified before God at all. You are no more hopeless than the most moral and respectable person in the world.”

Discuss with a friend:

What aspect of the cross is the hardest for me to apply to my life today?

What is one thing you can do to put the gospel in action this week?
