Sermon notes
Review - Essentials 1
i) Making a commitment to the local church
ii) Making a commitment to a small group in that church
Introduction
… We can always still grow
Disciples of Christ grow in Spiritual maturity by:
1. Committing oneself to the One who has been given all authority.
2. Committing to spending personal time with God.
3. Committing to growing alongside your Church Family.
———
1. Who holds the authority in your life? (v.16-19)
How do you know who holds authority in your life? … if you do what the person says.
Is your life still moving forward in God’s direction even if you have doubt? Even if you’re struggling in your priorities?
———
2. Who are you spending time with? (v.20)
• I grow when I spend time with the Word (Worship, Prayer)
• I grow when I spend time in the word (Study of Bible)
• I grow when I commit to obey and follow the Word (Great Commission)
———
3. Are you with others in the journey of spiritual maturity? (v.18)
• We grow when we spend time with the Word together (Communal Worship, Communal Prayer)
• We grow when we study and meditate on God’s word together (Small Group bible study)
• We grow when we join Christ in making (new) and maturing (current) disciples together (Great Commission)
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
—Hebrews 10:24-25
