We continue our mini-series in the book of Daniel, we come to the famous story of the fiery furnace. The king builds a huge statue to his own culture and requires that everyone bow to it... or else. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse. So, furnace time. I find myself wondering what this event would look like in the South Bay today. What would a statue for our culture look like? And how are we being asked to 'bow' to it? Obviously, the "bowing" wasn't meant to be a singular event, but a statement of ongoing allegiance and priorities. So, what allegiances and priorities regularly ask us to bow to them? Rearranging our energy, our schedule, our focus? And if we don't, what does it cost? That is the furnace for the South Bay. How could we ever hope to have the inner fortitude to stand in that sort of crucible? It's amazing how incredibly relevant this ancient passage is today. Let's talk about the “Fuel for Mission” (Daniel 3:8-30).
