"Watch out. Be ready. No one knows when it will happen." Jesus said these kinds of things a lot... 2000 years ago. What do we make of this? It sounds more like our ratings-driven news cycle than eternal wisdom, so many intellectually-inclined Christians just sort of set it aside and ignore it. Meanwhile skeptics see it as a false prophecy on the lips of Jesus. But both of those interpretations are serious errors. Jesus was not just making a Super Bowl prediction, with little long-term effect on our lives. He was talking about an essential aspect of a joyful life: what you believe about the future affects how you live now. As we continue our series, we come to the Parable of the Ten Virgins, in which Jesus gives us an incredibly stark warning. What is so important about living a life of readiness?
