We continue our series on Elijah & Elisha with an incredible image both of desperation and of provision. Most of the news we hear today is desperation with very little celebration of provision. And yet that is precisely where the Good News is most needed -- not just as a concept but in the practical places where we feel most overwhelmed. For some, crisis erupts when the collection agency calls. For others, it is health or family loss, or even loss of a sense of purpose. And that's when an everyday crisis becomes overwhelming. That is why I love this story of God's provision for a destitute widow. The creditor has come to take her sons into slavery, yet God has her gather all her neighbor's empty containers. And then he uses the town's collective emptiness to provide for her. Do we believe God still works through what we lack? What would it look like for us to live that out in the South Bay? Let's talk about the hope we have when “The Creditor Has Come” (2 Kings 4:1-7).
