We come to the New Testament commissioning of deacons in Acts 6. And while it raises interesting implications for church government, the bigger surprise in this passage is how the Gospel forms and shapes the early Church's response to an emergent need. Some widows are being overlooked. Mercy monies are being distributed unfairly. And there is even a question of prejudice. But instead of simply having the apostles solve it, they commission “The Magnificent Seven.”
