Advent begins in the dark. The Light of the World has come - but light was needed. As we begin this month of celebrating the joy of Christmas, we have to remember the problem which Advent is addressing. We come to a passage in the Gospel of Mark where Jesus heals a blind man, but Jesus is pointing to something more. For several chapters, religious leaders and even his own disciples are failing to *see* what he is doing. So he restores a man's sight. But... it doesn't work right away. Jesus has to touch him again. Why? He has healed with just a thought before, even from great distances. If he has that kind of power, why stagger the healing? What is he showing us about our spiritual blindess? “What Do You See?” (Mark 8:22-30). There is great news here for bumbling disciples like us! Let's dive into the hope of Advent together.
